FROM QUESTION TO ARGUMENT
An illustrated writer thinking, gesturing and moving a fountain pen.
10
steps.
No shortcuts.
A gate checks every step.

The quality is
in the process.

BEFORE WRITING01 / 10

Start with
a better question.

A topic is broad. A question gives it direction. You confirm the question your essay will answer, the word count, the language, and the citation style.

GATE question

Checks all four fields, the question, and the minimum length of 1,000 words.

OUTPUT FILEquestion.md

Gates check requirements for the process and its files. Critical reading and responsibility for the text remain yours.

The finished essay.
And the thinking behind it.

~/Documents/essays/your-question/ILLUSTRATIVE PREVIEW
+ drafts, review, recall,
and a rebuilt outline.
A question to give the essay direction.
Question: What makes an argument convincing?
Words: 1500

Markdown files. On your machine.

Sources before sentences.

At least five sources per thousand words. The checker fetches every link, and your notes stay with the text.

One sentence. Three versions.

The rewrite explores at least three versions of each sentence and requires changes to 70% of the sentences.

The memory test.

One agent summarizes the essay. Another, who has never read the original, rebuilds the argument from that summary.
